The Town of Walker has experienced tremendous growth in the past several years.  Walker has gained the reputation as the fastest growing community in Livingston Parish.  The last population census was challenged by Mayor Mike Grimmer and the Town Council insisting that the 4783 count was too low.   Tulane University notified Mayor Grimmer that the new count would be 5023, moving Walker from the status of a Town to a City.  Governor Mike Foster has been notified that the community status has changed and community leaders are waiting for a proclamation from the State of Louisiana proclaiming the Town of Walker as the "City of Walker".  For the history books, Walker will then become the second city in Livingston Parish.

Utility relocation on Highway 447 Walker South is 90% complete. 

Barber Brothers construction company will begin the five lane process in mid-May.  Four lanes with a center turning lane is only the beginning of the excitement of progress in Walker.  Two five foot sidewalks from I-12 to the Florida Boulevard intersection will enhance the new construction of new business locations along the main artery of our community. 

Super Wal-Mart will begin constructing its 159,000 square foot building by mid-May with a one year completion date. 

Winn-Dixie has started its 16,000 square foot building in February hoping to open by late September. 

Domino's pizza was permitted in mid February anticipating beginning construction by late March. 

Jet-24 has signed a lease and asked for permits to start construction by May of this year.

Best Western has meet with Mayor Grimmer and the Town Council on several occasions in an attempt to locate behind the Shell Station on the Walker South Road.

Taco Bell has researched several locations on the Walker South in an attempt to locate this year.

A permit has been issued to Texaco which is combining with a Popeye's fried chicken to locate next to McDonalds.

The Fina Station will begin a major face life to their location by mid summer.

The Town of Walker has become a very blessed community looking forward to a very healthy growth in the future.  We are looking forward to updating this information with the following topics about our community.
